Today Senior Jamal Jackson ran in the MHSAA Cross Country State Finals at Michigan International Speedway. Last season Jamal was injured early in the cross season with a fractured foot. After physical therapy and months off, he came back for track season to get injured again, now with the other foot. When summer training began for cross country, Jamal wasn’t even able to start. Finally, by August, Jamal was able to start running a couple miles a day and could gradually increase his mileage. It was a humbling and proud moment for me to watch him line up today for the State Finals, knowing how hard he has worked not only the past year, but over his entire running career. He deserved this moment and I couldn’t be more proud to have coached him the past four years. Jamal finished in 125th place out of 240 runners and he ran a personal record time of 17:20! It was a great way to end his cross country high school experience.
